Cradled by canopy and birdsong,
leaves hold a coveted perch
silent observers to the
mundane and extraordinary
unfolding below.
Basking in sun’s warmth,
embracing cool rain,
its earthy scent of petrichor,
holding tight to wiry branches
tousled by wind.
Life’s beauty culminates,
persistent green fades from
delicate veins, revealing a
surge of scarlet and marigold
hidden, waiting all along.
At last, they release
acrobats tumbling in
crisp autumn air
feeling for the first time the
exquisite joy of letting go.
